How to: Dialing US toll free numbers from Mexico
I hate making international telephone calls. I live in the US-MEXICO (Tijuana-San Diego) border region, and it always happens that when I’m in Mexico, I have to call the US, and when I’m in the US, I have to call Mexico.
It normally wouldn’t be such a big friggin deal if my cellphone handled it consistently. The problem is that sometimes the calls get redirected succesfully and sometime they don’t. To make matters worse, information on the Internet is often all wrong. Argh!
Anyway, here is how you call a US toll free number from Mexico (so I don’t forget…):
- For a U.S. 1-800-xxx-xxxx number, dial 001-880-xxx-xxxx.
- For a U.S. 1-888-xxx-xxxx number, dial 001-881-xxx-xxxx.
- For a U.S. 1-866-xxx-xxxx number, dial 001-883-xxx-xxxx.
You have to do that stuff because Mexico has its own 1-800 number system. Hope that helps.
